Emily and Jesse’s Malibu engagement session was every bit as spectacular as I had hoped it would be. They are both very busy people, so coordinating a date that worked for everyone was a bit tricky. Plus we decided that the best date to photograph their engagement session would be in December and I was praying it wouldn’t rain. I’m telling you we got lucky. The moment Emily stepped out of the car she said, “We’re not models so please bear with. us.” I laughed because I think almost every couple I have photographed has told me that, and I always say the same thing: “You bring the love and I will do the rest.”
To Emily’s surprise (Jesse did not mention this and I was just as surprised as Emily) Jesse got down on one knee and reproposed to Emily with a beautiful new ring. She was totally taken off guard, as you could just imagine, and became so elated and full of joy. I think she might’ve fallen in love with him all over again, because how sweet was that?
When we got back to shooting the engagement session I noticed that the sun was dipping so quickly behind the mountains. I wasn’t worried because I knew I still had some time before it would be dark. Most of the session was done in this overcast light which produced a very soft and beautiful glow. Photographing them was so easy, it felt so much like I was photographing friends. We were laughing so hard, I didn’t want to the shoot to end (as evidenced by me taking pictures into twilight as well as a little help from my camera’s ISO).
The last picture is of them dancing and enjoying the moment–the way life should be.
