Santa Ynez Engagement Session

Santa Ynez is the perfect little spot to shoot an engagement session. There are so many wide and open spaces–plus you have a plethora of rolling hills and open fields. California is known for its luminous light, so much so that photographers often jump at the chance to shoot out here. I have to admit, the light is pretty magnificent.

I was excited for Jess and Janelle’s Santa Ynez engagement session and especially excited because I got to meet them face to face. We ended at the top of a mountain and the view was a stunner from beginning to end. Janelle and Jess flew out from the east coast for their sunny California session (and I’m sure they didn’t mind the warm weather either).

They were such a joy to photograph! They told me the story of how they met online and went on their first date. It was the sweetest thing watching them retell their story. At times I’d catch glimpses of Jess looking over at Janelle with a big smile as she spoke–it was as if his heart was so overjoyed at hearing it all over again.

At the end of the night the light was golden and it seemed to wrap around them in a luminous hug. I didn’t want the session to end. I mean there they were, the only people (besides me) at the end of that mountain and it seemed that the world around them had stopped. It was a sight to see. Plus there was these two beautiful trees (symbolic, or what?) and one of the trees appeared to reach out to the sky as if saying, “We’re here world.”
